Hospice Experience: 18 years

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? I have always felt that how we face death is just as important as how we face life.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? Local ownership allows us to focus on our patients first instead of profits, which tends to be the focus of corporate medicine.

Deena Latargia, RN

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? Hospice has given me the opportunity to advocate for terminally ill patients, support them in their time of need, and stand beside them and their families to ensure presence and comfort during the most difficult time of their lives.

SouthEast Hospice’s philosophy of care, provision of the highest standard of care, and always putting the patient’s needs first. Sok Hwee Tay

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? My father was diagnosed with liver cancer and was on hospice for two months before he passed away. Hospice made a huge difference to not only my father but also the entire family. I chose hospice because of the difference it made in my life and now I hope to be able to give by walking with our patients and their families through this difficult time.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? The exceptional care that is being provided to our patients and their family. We have a team that works so well together with the goal of providing the best for the families that we work with.

Kayla Perdue, RN

Case Manager

Hospice Experience: 2 year

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? Working as an RN for 4 years, I saw so many end-of-life experiences that lacked appropriate knowledge and education. I became driven to learn more about palliative care and helping my patients and families have an end-of-life experience they desired.  I wanted to make sure their wishes were met, they were comfortable, and the patients and the families were well taken care of.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? I began my career at Southeast in September or 2020 and I can honestly say I have found my calling.  I love my job, my patients, and my coworkers. I have never been a part of such an amazing team – they are truly selfless.  Each person brings a special skill set to the table to ensure our patients and family the best care out there.

Brooke Edwards, RN

Case Manager

Hospice Experience: 4 years

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? I chose to get into hospice due to previous experience that saw some patients pass during hospital stays while undergoing futile treatments simply because they were never told about palliative care.  That felt so unfair and led me towards the calling to advocate for this particular demographic of patients.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? Southeast has a unique way of understanding the true meaning of hospice, and always makes sure that our patients are well cared for.

Angelica Shealy, RN

Case Manager

Hospice Experience: 4 years

Why did you choose to serve in hospice?  I did not have plans to become a hospice nurse but after working closely with SouthEast Hospipce as an RN Supervisor in long-term care, I felt a pull to hospice after becoming familiar with the hospice philosophy. The SouthEast Hospice team stood out from every other hospice that I had worked with in the past.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? I love that each and every member of our team goes above and beyond for every patient and family each and every time.

Jordan Buser, RN

Sandra Greenway, CNA

Hospice Aide

Hospice Experience: 6 years

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? The reason I chose to work for Hospice was because of the care they gave my mother. I took care of my mother and I could not have done it without the support of Hospice. One of the Registered Nurses I was helping made me realize the need for people with a compassionate heart were needed to help those through this time in their lives. I am truly grateful for the support.

What made you want to become a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? I wanted to work for a team that would support my personal beliefs that honored family, God, and team work.  We are valued and supported each and every day here at SouthEast Hospice.

Ginger Emonds, CNA

Hospice Aide

Hospice Experience: 20 years ago

Why did you choose to serve in hospice? I was not sure what I wanted to do, so I asked God to point me in the right direction because I really loved helping people. I didn’t want to work in a nursing home or a hospital,  I wanted more 1 on 1 where I could care for them. One of the nurses that I knew had mentioned hospice and ask me if I would like to have an interview and start with their company. My interview went very well,  I started with hospice and have never looked back because hospice is where my heart is.

What made you want to become a part of the SouthEast Hospice family? I choose Southeast hospice because two of the people that I’ve worked with before and I really admire is Deena Latargia which is our Executive Director and Chico Johnson a CNA that I’ve worked with and known for 20 years, really enjoy this company.  SouthEast Hospice is more like a family than a business.
